2021/22 Landesliga Rheinland-Region State Champions!
After several postponements, the top two teams, MJC-Trier and Koblenz-Luetzel, finally got to meet up for the de facto championship game. Playing on Koblenz's home court and in front of a raucous crowd, it was a hard fought game that went down to to the final buzzer. The game was high on drama and excitement, and featured everything from bloody noses and late game heroics, to questionable officiating and a thrown and broken chair (Hello, Bobby Knight!). In the end, MJC prevailed and won 71:69.
Roman Porr was instrumental in the win, scoring a team-best 19 points (Roman Porr: 3/6 threes, 3/4 twos, 4/4 FTs). With 31 seconds left and down 67:69, Porr stole the ball and was fouled, went to the line and shot 2 free throws to tie the game up at 69. With 5 seconds left and the game tied, Porr got fouled again on an inbound pass, and shot the two game winning free throws: MJC 71, Lützel 69.

Game notes: both times the game got rescheduled, Koblenz placed it in a very small venue, even though better venues were available. This court was basically a small school gym, and I was wondering why such an important game was played here? As soon as the game started, I knew why: acoustics! The low and curved ceiling amplified the crowd noise significantly, making the raucous home crowd sound like it was far bigger, and adding to the home court advantage. It did not quite work out that way.
Scoring note: the official score sheet shows three fouls, with two fouls in the 18th minute, but video only shows one foul in the 18th.
Video Notes: At times there is a lot of jitter in the video, especially early on, because the floor was very bouncy and when players ran past the vibration got transferred to the camera setup. In the second quarter I adjusted the setup and it got better, but it is still visible in parts.
